About Cheryl Capps Roach

"If you hear a voice within you say 'you can not paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." Vincent Van Gogh

Cheryl Capps Roach was born in 1958 and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she and her husband continue to live. Cheryl began drawing portraits in charcoal at around age twelve. She was inspired by the face and figure and was strongly compelled to sketch human form throughout her childhood. Her collegiate studies in human behavior and psychology led her to a long career in Clinical Social Work but over the last several years Cheryl has returned to her drawings and paintings in oils. Cheryl believes that a sound education in classical drawing skills is the foundation to good art. She has studied in the Atelier Program at the Conservatory of Classical Art in Edmond, Oklahoma under the instruction of Leslie Lineau; the Barcelona Atelier of Realist Art in Barcelona, Spain under master artist Xavi Denia and The Florence Academy of Art under Jura Bedic. Cheryl has continued her studies in oil painting and drawing under the training of artists Dan Thompson, David Shevlino, Sarah Sedwick, Stanka Kordic and Romel de la Torre. Cheryl has won numerous awards for both her oil paintings and drawings including First Place in oil and First Place in dry media. Several of her works have been juried into shows both regionally and out of state. Cheryl’s art making is centered around themes of self-determination, autonomy, change and hope and they are expressed through both realism and abstract. She is a founding member of Oklahoma Figure Art Alliance and an associate member of American Women Artists. Her work is represented by Port Arkansas Art Center and Gallery,

The Artery and on her website www.ccroachart.com
